Good Morning Florida House, District #37 Friends & Neighbors, The Florida Legislative Session wrapped-up on Friday, May 5, 2023 and I am back in the district working and sharing all of what we accomplished while in Tallahassee. As Governor DeSantis continues to sign the bills we passed during the 2023 Legislative Session, Florida is already beginning to benefit from tax breaks, education reform, and more. You can find a full 2023 End of Session Report from the Florida House of Representatives HERE and below I have also included for you a breakdown of the bills I sponsored. I do also want to highlight for you a couple of bills I consider to be big wins for Floridians... Florida's Largest Tax Relief Package(HB7063) - this tax package will save hard-working Florida families over $1.3 billing in tax relief. It includes:

  • 2 Back-to-School Holidays

  • 2 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays

  • 3 Months of "Freedom Summer" -

  • 1 Week Tax Holiday on Skilled Worker Tools

  • 1 Year Tax Holiday on Gas Stoves & Energy Efficient Appliances

  • Permanent Sales Tax Exemptions on Oral Hygiene Products and Baby and Toddler Products

  • Eligible Property, Agriculture, & Business Tax Cuts

Educational Freedom (HB1) - This bill will increase eligibility for eligible students to register to attend private and/or public schools that serve the students. Kid Care Eligibility (HB 121) - This bill increases the income eligibility threshold for kid care coverage. Licensing Fee Relief (HB 1019) - This bill promotes job growth and puts money back in the pockets of hard-working Floridians by reducing the cost of obtaining professional licenses. Real Estate Title Fraud (HB 1419) - This bill safeguards Floridians' most important investment - their home by keeping fraudsters from being able to illegally fake or record a real estate title and use it for their own gain without the knowledge of the owner. "Live Local Act" - Housing (SB 102) - This bill is aimed at giving assistance to affordable housing. I am so proud to be part of the Florida Legislature. House Bill 1 - Education - This bill revises provisions relating to the Family Empowerment Scholarship Program, Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, part-time enrollment in public schools, transportation of students, graduation requirements, Commissioner of Education duties, and educator certifications.

House Bill 265 - High School Equivalency Diplomas - This bill eliminates restrictions on students' ability to take the GED test if they pass the practice test.

House Bill 287 (Amended into HB1527) - Required Instruction in the History of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders - This bill requires instruction in the history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to be included in specified instruction.

House Bill 681 - Sales Tax Exemption for Certain Investigation and Security Services - This bill exempts charges for investigation & personal background check services, security guards & patrol services, & armored car services from sales & use tax. (A portion of this bill was amended into the tax package HB7063 and includes the sale of private investigation services by small private investigative agencies to a client is exempt from the tax imposed).

House Bill 1129 - Roller Skating Rink Safety - This bill is tort reform that will allow businesses similar to skating rinks to start seeing a 30% to 40% decrease in their insurance premiums. This bill is a win for small business!


Sponsored 2023 Bills Waiting on the Governor to Sign...

House Bill 95 - Rights of Law Enforcement Officers and Correctional Officers - This bill provides rights of law enforcement & correctional officers relating to Brady Giglio Lists.

House Bill 1275 - Persons with Disabilities Registry - This bill authorizes local law enforcement agencies to develop & maintain database for specified purposes; provides for enrollment in & removal from registry; specifies information registry may include; authorizes local law enforcement agencies to provide access to registry & relevant information from registry to law enforcement officers under certain circumstances.

House Bill 1277 - Public Records/Persons with Disabilities Registry - This bill exempts from public records requirements all records & personal identifying information relating to enrollment of persons in special persons registry & persons enrolled in special persons registry held by local law enforcement agency; authorizes local law enforcement agencies to disclose confidential & exempt information to certain persons under certain circumstances; provides for exempt status of such information held by those individuals & entities to be maintained.
